Type: Full-Time Employee (FTE)
Role Overview
We are seeking a SQL Server Developer to focus on T-SQL development, production support, and performance optimization. This role is intended for a developer who prefers working directly with code, indexes, and execution plans. You will join a stable, long-tenured team managing a mission-critical healthcare application.
Our internal team is responsible for the schema, logic, and database performance, while our hosting provider manages the physical infrastructure and operating system.
System Administration and Database Maintenance
As a US-based FTE, you will handle instance-level management and serve as the technical backup for the Senior Architect during vacations or absences. You will be responsible for the following administrative and DBA duties:
- Host Provider Liaison:Act as the primary point of contact for our hosting provider. You will investigate and respond to tickets regarding high CPU, RAM contention, and disk space alerts, determining if the cause is a rogue process, a specific query, or a genuine resource bottleneck.
- Database Operations:Perform standard DBA tasks, including restoring backups for development or troubleshooting, monitoring log shipping status, and ensuring the health of all SQL Agent jobs.
- Capacity Planning:Monitor disk space usage and track fast-growing or exceptionally large tables to prevent storage-related outages.
- Environment Management:Manage Windows Task Scheduler and troubleshoot file or folder permission issues within the Windows Server 2025 environment.
- Scripting and Automation:Maintain and run PowerShell scripts for automation, specifically utilizing dbaToolsand SQLServerDsc.
- CI/CD Troubleshooting:Monitor Jenkinsconsole log output to identify and resolve environment-specific build failures.
Career Progression and Responsibilities

- Initial Phase (Approx. 12–18 Months):You will spend 100% of your time on Tier 2 support. You will be responsible for identifying and fixing the root cause of production data issues and bugs. This allows the senior team to focus on major project deliverables while you gain subject matter expertise.
- Support Environment:Support tasks are assigned via Jira. There are no phone calls Most issues are categorized as SEV-3 or SEV-4, meaning you will generally work in a stable environment rather than a constant state of critical urgency.
- Transition Phase:As you demonstrate mastery of the system and root-cause resolution, you will begin taking on significant project work. The timing of this transition depends on your demonstrated skill and performance.
Technical Requirements
- Experience:5+ years of hands-on SQL development preferably with two or more companies/departments.
- Advanced T-SQL:Proficiency in writing and debugging complex stored procedures, managing transactions, rollbacks, and deadlocks. We adhere to a modular code standard with shallow nesting (typically one level deep).

- Performance Tuning:Experience using SQL Profiler and analyzing execution plans to tune complex queries to a target of < 500ms.
- Testing:Familiarity with tSQLt or Test-Driven Development (TDD) is a significant advantage. Our environment utilizes over 1,600 unit tests.
- Local Environment:Experience installing and configuring SQL Server on a local machine for development and troubleshooting.
